New highly versatile Smart Blu-ray player released by Samsung

A new Smart Blu-ray player that combines playback at full 1080p HD quality with a variety of new ways for multiple devices to access content through cloud-based services has recently been announced by equipment manufacturer Samsung.

One of the key features of Samsung’s new BD-ES6000 3D Blu-ray model is its size which is about the same as a Blu-ray disc and this makes it one of the more compact Smart 3D Blu-ray players in the Samsung range.

Disc sales surge in December as Blu-ray increases market share

It has been reported that with the increased market share that has now been taken by Blu-ray technology, the sale of physical discs enjoyed impressive growth in December.

When the nation made the switch from VCR to DVDs some years ago, most people were quick to react and eagerly got rid of their old VCR to replace it with a shiny new DVD player in order to enjoy increased ease, better quality and all the perks of DVD over video tapes.

The race is on to see whether consumers in the UK have finally decided to get with the times and opt for a Blu-ray player this Christmas rather than buying a DVD player.

Blu-ray players and discs have been around for some years now, yet surprisingly have not caught on as quickly as many might have imagined. Despite the increased quality that viewers are able to enjoy with a Blu-ray player many people have still stayed loyal to the DVD format, continuing to purchase DVD players rather than making the switch to Blu-ray.

Consumers finally start to take to Blu Ray

A study that was carried out in the United States has shown that after a number of years consumers are finally starting to favour Blu Ray over DVD…a trend that could catch on here in the UK.

Although many people were quick to move over from video to DVD when the technology first emerged, the change from DVD to Blu Ray has not been so smooth, with consumers appearing to want to hang on to the DVDs and players rather than make the switch.

A huge number of households these days have no video recorder even though a decade or so ago this was an essential part of our home entertainment systems. However, when DVD players came along the video recorder quickly began to lose popularity and these days the majority of homes are equipped with DVD players rather than video players.

Under current UK law the ripping of Blu-ray, DVD and CD media is illegal but the ever increasing use of laptops, tablet PCs and smart phones has many people believing that the transfer of media to these devices is something that should be allowed.

The copyright laws that prevent ripping of DVDs, CDs and Blu-rays could soon be undergoing big changes under proposed reforms to the current copyright laws that have recently been announced by the government in the UK.

BluRay turns five but sales are dropping

Last month saw Blu Ray turn five, with the first discs going on sale five years ago. However, it celebrated its fifth anniversary amidst falling sales driven by a number of factors.

It is difficult to believe that Blu Ray celebrated its fifth anniversary last month. To many people the technology still seems very new but it has been five years since the first discs went on sale to consumers. The technology itself is much older, going back over ten years.
