A number of selected Blu ray players and Viera HTVS from Panasonic will soon be able to receive a brand new Video on Demand function following a recent announcement from online retailer, Amazon.com.
Consumers will be able to buy films directly from their player and will be able to watch them instantly in HD on their Blu ray player or HTVS unit using the new Amazon Video on Demand function.
A number of DVR functions will be available including rewind, fast forward, pause and stop as part of the Amazon programs On Demand viewing functions, which will make it a far more viable alternative to watching movies on standard Blu Ray and DVD discs.
Three models of Blu ray player and three different HDTV model are able to users the new VoD service from Amazon, although it is expected that more will be added later if the service proves to be popular among users of these devices.
Although this latest function could prove to be a big hit with Blu ray and HDTV users it is not the first time that Amazon has offered promotion that include Blu Ray, with one of its promotions in July offering users who purchased a select Samsung HDTV a free Blu ray player as part of the deal.
Amazon is also offering a Blu ray boxed set for sale, which is running totally separately from its Video on Demand service.
With the overall sale of Blu ray devices not going as well as many in the industry had expected it is likely that a number of retailers and manufacturers will be looking at new promotions and device functions in order to boost their Blu ray player sales, and these kind of services will probably grow as Christmas approaches.
