Although there had recently been mention of Philips releasing its BDP3000 Blu ray player, the manufacturer has officially announced that its player has now been launched.
The new Philips BDP3000 is a BD-Live compatible Blu ray player has been released to compete with Blu ray players like the Sharp BD-HP21H, which is currently priced at around £169, and the player is an upgrade from the high quality BDP7300.
One of the features missing from the Philips BDP3000 is any form of local storage to use for BD-Live, although if it is needed there is a USB port that can be used to connect external storage.
The BDP3000 Philips Blu ray player has a number of great features including 1080p DVD upscaling, DivX video file decoding and 24Hz support as well as being able to play Blu ray discs.
Full support of Dolby TrueHD decoding is available for audio, although possibly due to the price point of the player, support for DTS HD Master Audio is not available. This, however, is unlikely to be a major concern for many users as they would be unlikely to have the type of sound system that would use this form of audio codec if they were looking at the budget end of the Blu ray market.
The pricing the Philips BDP3000 Blu ray player means that the range of features offered by the player are fairly basic compared to the more expensive Blu ray players that are currently available but for most users the feature that do come with the device offer more than enough to keep most Blu ray customers happy.
The introduction of increasingly inexpensive Blu ray players will do a lot to improve the take-up of Blu ray throughout the UK, which is something that many in the industry have been anticipating more and more this year.
